Poonam Natrajan congratulates ‘MAHIR’ and calls for Continous Improvement in Quality

August 22nd, 2016 by

Former Chairperson of National Trust for Persons with Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation, Mental Illness and Autism, Ms. Poonam Natrajan while talking with VRNeighbours termed ‘Mahir’ as great and a welcome initiative. She felt that an online portal is truly one of the answers for marketing products made by Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). She added that she only wants that the products sold on a platform should be of good quality and charity should not take precedence.  Selling in the name of just charity will not help. She suggested that Mahir should set its standards and help people make marketable products and not sell any products merely because they are made by PwDs. Ms. Natrajan mooted the idea of involving  good designers and improving the products as the time progresses. She said the idea behind Mahir was to bring different organizations making products made by PwDs on a single platform. She pointed out that right now nothing much is known about Mahir on issues like what percentage they will take as commission and will ‘Mahir’ also support PwDs in procuring raw material. Ms. Natrajan hoped that since the lot of PwDs are bound at home due to accessibility issues, ‘Mahir’ will help them to reach out to more people through online, offline and corporates. She also added that ‘Mahir’ can help to build skills of PwDs to get the final product which is better in quality and matches the standards of other products made by anyone else.
